The name, Miriam House, reflects the importance of Miriam, sister of Moses, who stood by him from his birth and assisted him throughout her long and dedicated life.
Catholic Charities opened Miriam House in 2000 to provide transitional living for up to two years for homeless women and their minor children.
While in this safe environment, residents are provided with life skill training, referrals to other services, educational opportunities and case management services. The focus is to help the residents identify issues that have contributed to their homelessness and develop skills need to become self-sufficient in order to end the cycle of poverty.
