Human Rights Commission was established in 1991 as mandated by the 1989 Synod. The commission will monitor, evaluate and make recomendations to the Bishop of the Diocese of Toledo on matters of Gospel justice, including but not limited to, employment, education, programs, activities and spiritual needs. The HRC will advocate for the promotion and protection of human rights on local, state, national and international levels and assist parishes in order to enable them to become involved in the issues at hand.
Members of the Human Rights Commission are appointed by the Bishop of the Diocese of Toledo and serve in an advisory capacity to him. They represent a cross-section of the diocese who are committed to the Church's teaching on social jsutice and reflect the cultural diversity of our church in northwest Ohio.
Most recently, the HRC held two educational workshops on the death penalty and the church's teaching regarding this issue. Workshops were informational and experiential based on a recently released packet created by HRC for parish use in various ministries.
