Elder Ministry

Catholic Charities helps to sponsor two annual retreat days, one in August at St. Charles Mercy Hospital in Oregon and the other in January at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo.

Presentations have been made at parishes to help extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion who visit shut-ins or go to hospitals and nursing homes. Elder Ministry Enhancement Gatherings have been recently scheduled to assist those who minister to our elders and help make their pastoral encounters more meaningful.

Catholic Charities continues to provide referrals to community resources assisting in the care of aging parents.

Congratulations!

Germaine Kirk, Parish Ministry Program Coordinator, has been appointed to complete the term of a departing board member of the Northwest Ohio Gerontological Association. NOGW is a multidisciplinary organization and offers educational and networking opportunities to indivdiuals involved in the care of older adults. NOGA addresses issues that affect older adults and promotes the positive aspects of aging. Germaine was particularly asked because of the desire to bring a "spiritual component" of life to the group.
