Adult Advocacy/Guardianship
Guardianship Services (Erie, Huron & Richland Counties)Provided to adults 55 and older who have been deemed incompetent by the probate court and who have no appropriate family members to care for them. Both staff and volunteers provide this much needed service which includes placement, health care and financial decision making. Guardians become the legal representative and voice for the individual in need, advocating for their care and comfort at a time when they can no longer speak for themselves.Payee Services (Richland County only)Often times, persons living on limited incomes have difficulty managing their monthly budgets or are vulnerable to exploitation. Catholic Charities provides this voluntary service to adults age 55 and older in order to assist with bill payment, and when needed prevent further financial exploitation. Staff will work with the individual to establish a monthly budget, make the actual monthly payments, make arrangements for payments to creditors and plan for future financial needs whenever possible. As this is a voluntary relationship, the individual is able to resume personal management of their finances at any time.
